Sensitive teeth is an issue that many people suffer which effects their day to day life. Many patients come in asking what can be done and the most common treatment comes as a surprise to most people: Toothpaste.
However, the key is picking the correct toothpaste. The key ingredient to look for is Potassium Nitrate. With proper and consistent use, this simple, non-invasive treatment can result in a decrease in sensitivity. It can also be supplemented with fluoride varnish to further assist in decreasing sensitivity as well as strengthening the enamel which assists in preventing tooth decay.
It is important to note that in some cases, where there is great dentin exposure, more invasive treatments such as fillings may be required.
