Dental emergencies don't wait for business hours. If you're in Glendale, Burbank, or Pasadena and something has gone wrong with your teeth, this guide covers what to do in the first 30 minutes — and when you need to see a dentist right away.
For same-day dental emergencies in Glendale, call Saryan Dental at (818) 543-0707. Emergency treatment at our office starts at $50.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Call a dentist immediately if you have any of the following:
A knocked-out (avulsed) tooth — the first hour is critical for saving it.
Severe, persistent tooth pain that over-the-counter painkillers don't touch.
A cracked or broken tooth, especially if there's bleeding or a visible nerve.
Facial swelling or a bump on the gum — this may be a dental abscess.
A lost crown, filling, or bridge.
Uncontrolled bleeding after a dental procedure or injury.
Knocked-out tooth: what to do in the first hour
If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, the American Association of Endodontists says it has the best chance of being saved if re-implanted within 30 to 60 minutes. Here's the sequence:
Pick up the tooth by the crown (the chewing part), never the root.
Rinse gently with milk or saline if it's dirty. Don't scrub or use soap.
If possible, place the tooth back in the socket and bite down gently on a clean cloth.
If you can't re-insert it, keep it in a cup of milk or saliva (not water).
Call us at (818) 543-0707 immediately and get to the office as fast as possible.
Severe toothache: what to do before your appointment
A severe toothache usually means infection, a cracked tooth, or exposed nerve. While you're waiting for your appointment:
Rinse with warm salt water to reduce bacteria.
Apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek for 15 minutes on, 15 off.
Take ibuprofen as directed on the label if you're not allergic.
Avoid chewing on that side. Stick to soft, lukewarm foods.
Do not apply aspirin directly to the gum — it can cause chemical burns.
Cracked or broken tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water. If there's bleeding, apply gentle pressure with gauze. Save any broken pieces in a small container of milk or saliva and bring them with you. We can often bond fragments back onto the tooth or use a crown to restore full function.
Dental abscess: don't wait
A dental abscess is a pocket of infection in the gum or at the root of a tooth. Signs include a pus-filled bump, throbbing pain, swelling of the face or jaw, fever, and a bad taste in the mouth. This is not something to wait out — untreated abscesses can spread to the jaw, neck, and even the brain. Call us the same day.
What does emergency dental treatment cost?
Emergency treatment at Saryan Dental starts at $50 for the initial visit and assessment. The total cost depends on the treatment needed — anything from a simple filling to a root canal, extraction, or implant. We verify insurance coverage before starting any work and offer financing options for larger treatments.
